Experience the charm of Showa-modern Japan. A single-story villa with a solid, unpretentious design, overlooking the horizon and the island of Oshima.
Set atop a hill crowned by a large camphor tree, this 1960s-era vacation home quietly blends into its natural surroundings. Its tiered garden, dotted with exposed lava rocks, reflects the volcanic landscape unique to the Izu region. A sofa by the ocean-facing window doubles as a daybed—perfect for soaking in the view. Just a 14-minute walk from Izu-Kogen Station on the Izu Kyuko Line.
What We Cherish
Stone walls of the entrance

Greeting all who arrive, the entrance porch features two types of natural stone: Izu stone and green-toned marble. We mounted our brass logo sign—designed to slowly age and deepen in character over time—on this symbolic wall.
A panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean

Located on the eastern edge of the Izu Peninsula, this retreat offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. From the living room, kitchen, and bedroom, you can feel the vastness of nature and a deep connection to the Izu Islands. Each space was designed to create a harmonious relationship between place and scenery.
Window-side seating

"Before renovation, the window was lined with stacked books. We imagined the former owner reading here—glancing up at the view whenever their eyes grew tired. Now, with greenery just outside and the sea beyond the terrace, we’ve added a comfortable sofa so you can relax again by the window."
Private Garden
Majestic Trees

"Amid what was once an overgrown garden, we discovered treasures: a towering camphor tree, a phoenix palm, and a bayberry tree. Rather than removing them, we chose to honor their age and presence—allowing guests to enjoy the beauty of their mature, expansive branches."
Lava Rocks Born of the Land

"The garden features a distinctly Izu-style rockscape made from lava stone, born of Mount Omuro’s eruption. We preserved and restored the original stone walls, carefully built by mid-Showa era craftsmen. The garden path begins at a large stone bearing the YAMO logo, gently guiding guests into the space."
Perennials

"Perennial plants—those that root deeply in the soil, endure the winter, and bloom again in spring—add subtle color and life to the garden. They are part of an ongoing story, one that will continue to grow. As time passes, these plants will bloom, settle, and make the land their own."

Terrace

A spacious grassy terrace perfect for barbecues. Outfitted with a table and bench, and BBQ grills are available to rent.
Main Bedroom

A traditional Japanese-style room with the soothing scent of natural igusa (rush grass), furnished with a double bed. Though compact at just 4 tatami mats, the intimate scale typical of Japanese architecture creates a cozy atmosphere.
Living Room

Over 20 tatami mats of open living space with solid wood flooring and mid-century antique furniture. The beautifully carved ceiling beams are original from the home’s 1969 construction. We’ve refinished them and added three pendant lights to complete the look.
Entrance

The wooden door, glass blocks, and textured glass transom windows have been preserved from the 1960s. There’s also a convenient washbasin right at the entrance—ideal for groups, as a second sink during your stay.
Bathroom

"Original blue tiles are paired with large modern tiles, creating a blend of retro and contemporary. The spacious room includes a luxurious overhead shower, reminiscent of an international hotel. For a soak, head to “Izu Kogen no Yu” (a 3-minute drive, admission fee required), or enjoy a refreshing shower at the house."
Coffee Beans & Drip Set

Take your time with a peaceful coffee moment. We provide beans (two cups per guest) sourced from a local roastery, along with a paper drip set. If you enjoy the coffee, we invite you to visit the shop during your stay.
Record Collection

In collaboration with “Music, Books, and Coffee — Abflabo”, our curated shelf features seasonal records. Let yourself be enveloped in sound using the in-house record player.
Record Player & Speakers

Enjoy music through Edifier twin speakers—loved by audiophiles worldwide—wired to the record player. You can also connect your own device via Bluetooth.
Sofa (Extra Bed)

The original window-side sofa transforms into an extra bed at night. It’s made from high-resilience urethane, the same material used in luxury mattresses—ideal for a comfortable stay for up to five guests.
Artwork

The two bedrooms feature pieces by Atami-based artist MIHIRA YUTA. Enjoy the subtle feeling of connection between your private space and the abstracted coastal landscapes of Ito.
